Tree remedies: themes plus different families, all illustrated with nice cases

Trees are not a distinct taxonomic group, but plants that have evolved a woody trunk as a way to tower above other plants and make full use of the sunlight.
Trees provide shade, shelter and timber for construction and oxygen for us to breathe.
Crucially in our present time trees play a fundamental role in the carbon cycle. There are many sacred associations between trees and human culture. It is timely for us to study trees from a homeopathic perspective.

We will explore the main themes in trees and compare different tree families through case studies. Tree people can feel a great sense of isolation and disconnection, with a corresponding desire for connection. There can be feelings of emptiness, fragility and hollowness (the inner core of a tree’s trunk is dead), with an urge to relieve this sensation through over-eating and other behaviours. There is a feeling of having done something terribly wrong with shame and self-loathing.

Cases will include the conifers Taxus brevifolia (Pacific Yew), Pseudotsuga menziesii (Douglas Fir), Agathis australis (Kauri Tree) and Thuja occidentalis (White cedar), the euphorbs Hura brasiliensis (Assaku) and Hevea brasiliensis (Rubber Tree),the citrus Angustura vera, the hamamelid Fagus sylvatica (Beech), the trees of the desert – the cacti Carnegia gigantea (Saguaro) and Opuntia vulgaris(Prickly Pear), and tree remedies from other plant families. In most cases we will use Rajan Sankaran’s sensation method as part of the case analysis and show how helpful this can be.

About Dr. Jonathan Hardy

Jonathan studied Zoology at Oxford University and obtained an Honours degree in 1978. He then studied Medicine at Southampton University and qualified in 1984. He became a member of the Faculty of Homeopathy in 1988 and since then has worked fulltime on the south coast of England as a Homeopathic doctor.

Jonathan practices classical Homeopathy, combining the time-tested traditional techniques with the exciting new methods developed by the well-known Homeopathic teachers of the twenty-first century. In particular the work of Rajan Sankaran and Jan Scholten has been important in his practice. Learning and applying knowledge of the themes which run through the various kingdoms and remedy groups is a fundamental method in his practice.
